A few (let’s be real, not just a few) of my favorite spots in Richmond, Virginia. Whether you’re a VCU student, visiting for the weekend, or just like to see what other cities have to offer, you’ve come to the right place! I promise I tried to keep it short, but RVA has too dang much to offer for me to narrow it down.
The Pit and the Peel: With locations on VCU’s campus and a new one in Carytown, this is a great place to stop if you’re in the mood for some higher-priced aesthetic food. They’ve got awesome smoothie bowls, sandwiches, and salads. My fave is the house bowl!
The Daily Kitchen and Bar: My favorite place for brunch! I always take my parents here (lol). They have an extensive food and drink menu, with something to offer for all walks of life. The atmosphere is super fresh and it’s conveniently located in Carytown among a bunch of other shops and restaurants.
Asado: If you like wings or tacos, you’ll LOVE Asado. Their honey sriracha wings are probably some of the best I’ve ever had and the shrimp taco just gets me. Perfect place to stop in for a quick bite or some drinks, right next to VCU’s campus.
Union Market RVA: It’s like a cuter, teeny-tinier version of DC’s Union Market. I guess? With a market, food counter and bar, Union Market packs a punch of Richmond culture into one little area. They have an awesome outdoor seating area and their sandwiches are killer; you really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. When you’re done, stop by the market and grab a Nightingale ice cream sandwich. Promise you won’t regret it!
Perly’s: PERLY’S. No words for this one. Just kidding, a lot of words for this one. Perly’s is a hip Jewish deli that my inner Jewess has fallen in love with. They have a wide selection of smoked fish, the best bagels known to man, a killer matzoh ball soup. Also some killer rugelach and kugel. Please just go, trust me on this one.
Lunch & Supper: A super cool spot in the up-and-coming neighborhood of Scott’s Addition. Lunch or Supper is a laidback Southern restaurant offering super delish things for any time of day. Think mac and cheese smothered with pulled pork and an egg on top. Yep, I’m about it. They also have a brunch market once a month in which local artists come and sell their goods; it’s super fun and definitely showcases what Richmond has to offer.
Charm School: MY FAVORITE. Don’t get me started. Charm School has the best ice cream I have ever eaten (not exaggerating) and I will happily pay $5 for it any day of the week. With plentiful vegan options and funky flavors that always change, Charm School is just that: charming. If you’re ever in Richmond and looking for one place to go, it should be here.
